Sterker door Strijd

It all began with a walk and a feeling.

Sterker Door Strijd (translating to stronger through the struggle) can be seen today under Rotterdam's coat of arms and it’s intrinsically connected to the city’s image. It exemplifies the resilience and strength of the city's inhabitants in rebuilding their city. Sterker Door Strijd has become a central aspect of the city's development, particularly in its architecture and urban planning. It represents a shift in the city's memory from pain to pride and hope for the future.

The booklet Sterker Door Strijd is a short comic that poetically focuses on the city of Rotterdam and its motto. The story follows my journey in the city, including my walking and drawing practice, where I reflect on the transformative power of memory and activism in shaping the city's past, present, and future.

This booklet follows the work created in 2024 for the exhibition Getekend:Rotterdam! Mag ik bestaan? at the Kunsthal supported by CBK Rotterdam and Stadsarchief Rotterdam.

Pre-order sale at €22 (excl. VAT) for a limited time.

A3 paperback, Dutch/English, full colour, 24p, 2025
